more reese!

update on reese - everything looks good! he did great with the x-rays and they said that his spleen is "within the normal size range"... whatever that means... we're super happy that he's ok! i guess that a large spleen in an indication that something else (much more serious) is wrong so the dr wanted to just make sure.

lake of the ozarks

we've lived in stl for over 3 years now and just now made it down to the lake of the ozarks. going to the lake has been on our to do list for awhile now, but every summer other things seem to come up and it gets pushed aside. this summer, my family started talking about possible family vacation/reunion locations and lake of the ozarks was mentioned. so 2 weekends ago, we spent a long weekend with the family, in a large rental house on the lake.

i've heard that parts of the lake can get pretty wild and crazy, but our house was off of a quiet cove and was the perfect place for all 17 of us (plus our dogs) to just relax and enjoy spending time together.
the whole family

mike and i drove down after work on friday and joined up with everyone else (who had already been there a day) - on saturday we rented some boats and had a great time out on the water. on sunday some of us went to check out the outlet stores (it started storming really bad when we were in the shoe store, and then the store got hit by lightening! crazy! luckily it didn't catch on fire and everyone was ok, but i took it as a sign that i shouldn't be buying shoes :-) it was a great weekend!

reese trying to figure out how he can sit with mike

speaking of reese... he's been doing great after his surgery on his leg 2 months ago, but we went to a our yearly vet checkup on saturday and they said that his spleen seemed larger than it should (not sure how they could tell this) - we're going back on thursday for more x-rays, hopefully it is nothing, but we'd appreciate some nice thoughts...

louvered door

so lets talk for a moment about the louvered door. the louvered bathroom door...lets not talk about the pink wallpaper. someday we will work on the hallway. someday.... anyway, i have hated this bathroom door since the day we moved in. strong words, i know, but really, who puts a louvered door on a bathroom? and in a hallway with 4 other doors that are all the original 5 panel with dark stain that matches the rest of the woodwork? but besides the style and color, I feel that the bathroom is the one place where you need some, um, sound privacy...we're replacing the door with an old door that we bought when mom and dad were visiting back in march. i didn't say anything about the bathroom needing viewing privacy, just sound :-) i've been waiting to get an old door with frosted glass ever since i found the window in the bathroom. the upstairs hallway is very narrow and the bathroom is very tiny. i think that a door that allows light to come from the bathroom into the hallway (and the other way around) will make both spaces seem slightly larger and more open. at least that's my hope. i am also hoping that the frosted glass film that we used on our basement windows will work just as well on the door. i was unable to find an old door that fit all of the requirements, and the glass seemed to be the easiest to fix. if that doesn't work, we can always get a new piece of frosted glass. trying to make a not at all square old door fit into a slightly smaller and very not at all square existing opening took most of the day yesterday. we still have some work to do, but i think we're getting close to it fitting. next we need to work on matching the stain. we've had some bad luck with that, but hopefully the dark stain will be easier to match?

besides, now we have no door on the bathroom. and i think that might actually be worse than the louvered door...

the new tiki torch

mike sent me this the other day:
tiki torches made out of recycled wine bottles! i really like the blue wine bottles they used too, esp. with the cooper... and with pieces from the hardware store (you all know how much i love hardware stores) it's less than $5!

now we just need the nice fence to hang them on :-) maybe we can make them work on our deck...

and yes, we're back from weddings/travel/etc.! hopefully back to regular posts, and maybe even starting a house project this weekend???....

back in a few weeks :-)

so sorry for the lack of posts lately... life has gotten in the way! between weddings, vacations, and work we've had very little time to ourselves and have had no time for house projects or the blog!! plus my laptop is officially dead and all of my pictures are stuck on various cameras. and really, what fun is a post without photos?? so i'm taking (continuing) a quick break but i promise i'll be back in a few weeks.
