stair light, stair bright...

This is what our stair light fixture looks like right now. Actually, this picture was taken at the walk-thru before possession, but that's basically what it still looks like, except we don't have anything hanging on the wall. Someday we will rent a giant ladder and remove that wallpaper and paint. We want to get a new light fixture though and install it at the same time we paint. We also have nice skylight above our stairs, it brings in a lot of natural light during the day.
keep in mind that we have my much loved retro ebay light fixture purchase hanging in the entry, at the bottom of the stairs.
we also have 2 of these ikea light fixtures - one in the downstairs hall, and one in the upstairs hall. originally i was planning on getting a third matching light to hang above the stairs, thinking that then all circulation spaces would have the same basic light fixture.

and then i saw this light online at west elm... and now it's on sale...

so, what do you think? both are about 1' in diameter and i think that would be a decent size. i've seen other larger lights that are ok but are much more expensive. i like how the west elm light looks with the ebay fixture, and how open it is, but i'm worried that i'm getting to have too many "statement" light fixtures, so maybe the more simple ikea light would be better? i'd love to hear what you think!

i also don't know how long of a cord you get with the west elm light, i'll have to look into that... it would hang down pretty far from the ceiling.

I think the globe works better in the space. The simplicity and opacity is nice - but here is a hint - Rejuvenation is coming out with mid century inspired globe lamps in September that are more refined than the Ikea version. I would actually get one of those!

I like the mix of modern and stained glass. I think the West Elm (which I love) is a little too complicated and distracts from the window.

I have to cheat here and say I like both looks. I tend to like very modern or retro modern lighting but the large globes are in keeping with the vintage of the house. I'm waffling here. No help from me I'm afraid!

Hmmm... The Brick House is right about distracting from the stained glass. The window and the fixture are both very pretty and so the light may well distract one's attention from the window.

*sheesh* still no help.

i think i am leaning towards the globe... i like the other fixture a lot but this might not be the right space for it. mike likes the west elm fixture though, so we'll see who wins :-)
